On Celery Root and Red Potatoes - January 25, 2011

Snowy Trees

Monday morning, it was so cold up in Vermont where one of our distributors is based that more than half of their diesel semi-trucks wouldn't start. (They're Vermonters, they deliver year round and they know what they're doing, but the cold air defeated even their stoutest engine block warmers.) Unfortunately, that distributor was the one bringing us the Deep Root Organic Co-op celery root and red potatoes for many boxes this week. They were also going to bring many of their other customers many other things, so we got stuck in the backlog with everyone else! So, to be sure that everyone gets some good roots this week, we're going to substitute potatoes from Prince Edward Island (Boston Organics staff favorite Clover Food Lab makes a point of using PEI potatoes for their fries) and parsnips from Deep Root Co-op trucked in by a different distributor. Next week we'll have the celeriac and red potatoes! Never a dull moment around here.
