Local This Week

5/3 - 5/8

The crocuses and daffodils are blooming all around Boston, which means chive blossom season is right around the corner. When allowed to bloom, chives produce a brilliant purple flower, which makes a delightful garnish for spring salads.

This week, we have the precursor to those beautiful flowers, fresh-cut chives from Happy Valley Organics. A member of the allium family, chives are closely related to onions, garlic, scallions and leeks. Unsurprisingly, they add a burst of fresh flavor to everything they touch.

Locavore Recipe of the Week

No need for mayo in this refreshing twist on the traditional backyard potato salad. The addition of honey vinegar and organic black radishes, a mild but hearty variety, creates of a more dynamic flavor. But it's the inclusion of a handful of fresh chives that will really help your potato salad stand out from the others at your next potluck BBQ.
