Local This Week

2/8-2/12

The sun rises a little earlier each morning, sparking dreams of spring though we continue to hibernate through winter. This week, little balls of amber winter sun can be found in Boston Organics boxes in the form of Gold Ball turnips. These hearty roots have a slightly sweet flavor and smooth texture.

Red Fire Farm in Granby, MA, will deliver both the joyful yellow turnips and purple kohlrabi. This local farm has grown produce using certified organic practices since they began in 2001. In addition to the health environmental benefits of organic farming, the growers at Red Fire also value farmland preservation and community engagement, and incorporate them into the farm's mission and practices.

Winter Moon Farm will also deliver produce in royal colors this week: golden carrots and purple beets. Bring out the sweetness of the beets with a simple brown sugar glaze. This recipe works great with other roots–try including some carrots and turnips as well!
