More people and families were challenged this year while facing the coronavirus and rising unemployment. While individuals had shifted into a new normal, others were challenged with finding a way to feed themselves and their families. How do you get food when you can’t afford it?
Established organizations like Greater Boston Food Bank and Food For Free have been combating food insecurity all over MA. And community fridges and mutual aid networks, a more grassroots approach, have proved that they’re here to stay in our neighborhoods. Folks who have resources to spare have found ways to divert it to those who might be struggling. A beautiful example of a sustainable food system and the power of the local community.
Around Thanksgiving, Boston Organics collected donations from our amazing BO Community with the intention of combating food insecurity. In 2020, the need to support our neighbors and feel connected (while being physically distanced) was at the forefront.
