In Farewell

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Boston Organics will cease operations effective Friday, February 28th.

It’s been a real honor and privilege that you have entrusted us over the past 20+ years to deliver food and nourishment to your households and families.

I am so grateful and thankful to have had the support of customers, farms/vendors, family and an incredibly dedicated crew. It has been through a collective effort that we have meaningfully connected the farmer in the field to our customers’ kitchens and breakrooms for so many years.

I started Boston Organics in 2002 with the goal of helping to build a more healthy and sustainable food system – one that was good for the planet and all those involved in the supply chain (from the farmers to our staff to our customers, and everyone in between).

To that end, I feel we have contributed in many small ways. We have witnessed an increase in the availability of local and organic foods as well as greater awareness of and interest in the importance of local and vibrant food systems. There are still incredible challenges, but I have witnessed many positives.

When I first began in the summer of 2002, I was unable to source enough locally grown, certified organic lettuce for our small customer base. Fast forward 20+ years and I see a flourishing local and regional food system with an abundance of options and outlets for farmers and consumers.

I have so much to be thankful for...

A dedicated staff – some have been with Boston Organics for nearly 20 years (hit me up if you’re looking for some of the hardest working people I know).  They are the ones that have done the heavy lifting through some particularly challenging times.  This business is a marathon. Our team has figured out one way or another to keep it going consistently at a high-level day in and day out.

An incredible customer base – many have been here for the entire journey. It was through your support that we’ve been able to do what we do. Thank you for directly supporting our livelihoods as well as our network of farms, suppliers and businesses.

A network of farms and suppliers - many that we've worked with for almost a quarter of a century!

I am also thankful for the current owner of Boston Organics – GrubMarket who has supported us these past years against some very strong headwinds.

I do not know what is next for me, but I have a team of talented, dedicated, hardworking, creative, curious staff that will be looking for jobs. If you are hiring or know of opportunities for customer service, operations, IT/business analyst, logistics, drivers, warehouse, please let me know. I highly recommend them and feel honored to have worked with such a dedicated staff these past years.

Sincerely,

Jeff Barry
