Local Tomatillos, Blueberries, Tomatoes, Corn | Boston Organics

With dozens of acres of fields to tend to, our organic farm partners have very little time to rest during the height of the local season. Many of them will spend Labor Day weeding, harvesting and bringing their farm-fresh assortment of fruits and veggies to our warehouse so that tomorrow morning we can bring it all right to your doorstep.

So if you're enjoying a day off from work or school, we hope you'll take a moment to recognize all of the people who are working to keep our sustainable food system running smoothly.

For example, there's Kyle Doda, the owner of 1000 Stone Farm and one of our newest local farm partners. We use fresh garlic almost every day in our cooking, but we rarely give it a second thought. Kyle, however, is one of the most excited garlic growers we have ever met.

The Red Russian garlic that he's bringing us this week is a special variety with a slightly sweet flavor and an intense and long-lasting heat. It grows particularly well in the rocky hills of central Vermont where 1000 Stone Fram is located.

We're excited to use some organic Red Russian garlic alongside the organic tomatillos from Chamutka Farm in a flavorful Salsa Verde. Tomatillos are small, husked fruits that add a nice citrus-like flavor to Mexican sauces. Their natural pectin makes them an excellent addition to salsas, jams and preserves.

Only Dogma Box customers will be able to try these locally grown tomatillos, so if you want to give them a shot this week you might consider changing your box type.

Dogma Box customers will also be the only group to get their hands on Atlas Farm's organic jalapeño peppers and their special Mountain Magic tomatoes. There really is no better time of the year for Bostonians to eat local, organic food.
