Posted by Coley Ward on Mar 26, 2018 9:28:25 AM

For the second week in a row and the third time this winter, we're having trouble sourcing ripe bananas. And we're not alone. Head to your local super market and you'll likely either see empty banana shelves or shelves of green bananas.

The reason: Shipments of imported bananas have been delayed due to the winter storms we have seen over the past few weeks.

We know our customers have questions about the sudden banana shortage, so we wanted to do our best to answer them here.

Drum roll please...

Fresh from the Farm: Shifting Perspective

Posted by Rebecca Bilodeau on Feb 20, 2017 9:15:53 AM

All the snow we've gotten in the last couple of weeks has us looking at things in a new way. Snow-covered streets seem suddenly different, and the landscape keeps shifting as the snow melts, revealing things that were buried. As snow piled up, or got packed down into slippery ice, reliable paths suddenly seem strange. This shift in perspective can help us recognize what we usually take for granted, and look at them in a new light. This week, we are looking at things sideways and reconsidering familiar foods.

Fresh from the Farm: Opposites Attract

Posted by Rebecca Bilodeau on Sep 19, 2016 12:31:05 AM

This Thursday, September 22 is the autumn equinox, when day and night are the same length. (Approximately. We're mostly interested in the poetics.)  This event marks the beginning of fall, and the ever-decreasing daylight as we head toward the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. The balance of light and dark at the equinox got us thinking about other opposing pairs. Read on to see how we're bringing together all sorts of opposites in the kitchen using produce from this week's  boxes.

A weekly update from Boston Organics.

Tuesday, February 9th is Mardi Gras, the final day of a season of festivities and feasting. In New Orleans, revelers nosh on King Cake, muffuletta sandwiches, jambalaya and crawfish etoufée to begin the somber season of Lent with a bang. This week, we’re celebrating Mardi Gras New England style! The winter veggies of our northerly latitude merrily don the traditional Mardi Gras colors of green, gold and purple and parade throughout Boston on their green plastic floats.

The peaches, nectarines and plums are ripening rapidly and the scallions, chives, kale and zucchini are ready for harvest.
