Tofu is a great source of protein. If you're looking to decrease your meat consumption for environmental or ethical purposes, tofu might be a great substitute for you.
According to Medical News Today, here's how tofu stacks up against other protein sources:
Tofu (hard or firm) | Walnuts | Salmon | Chicken (boneless, skinless breast) |
122 grams of tofu contains 15.57 grams of protein | 30 grams of walnuts contains 5 grams of protein | 85 grams of salmon contains 18.79 grams of protein | 3.5 oz of chicken contains 31 grams of protein |
13% protein | 17% protein | 22% protein | 31% protein |
Heiwa (hay-wa; meaning 'peace' in Japanese) Tofu uses soy beans that are organic, non-GMO grown on Maine and New England farms. The soy beans are soaked and ground into a slurry, then cooked with water and squeezed to make soymilk. The soymilk is then curdled into soy bean curds (aka tofu!). Lastly, the curds are pressed into slabs of tofu, cut into rectangular blocks and delivered to our customers!
