This Week's Local Box - August 13, 2012

A box full of super foods is being delivered to Dogma Box subscribers this week. These include antioxidant rich blueberries from Maine and beta-carotene filled carrots from Atlas Farm in Massachusetts. Also new to the box: fresh cantaloupe from Porter Farm in NY. Beautiful eggplants, chard, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, onions and apples round out the box.

The included recipes utilize many of the produce items that you’re receiving in this week’s Dogma Box. Our recipes are usually quite flexible and easily adaptable based on your pantry and your dietary needs. Feel free to get creative in the kitchen! The Dogma Box is always sourced as close to home as possible and this week's is grown completely in-state. Now that we have reached the warm weather months in New England, there is chance for a variety of crops to grow. You can't help but notice how vibrant the dogma box has become. It is amazing to think how close to Boston all of these tender vegetables are being grown.

It is the last week of June. The warm weather and persistent rains have paid off. Look at this week's luscious local box! Your boxes are filled with every shade of green. You'll be happy eaters knowing how full of nutrients these tasty items are.

Fennel is a true gift of the season. This licorice-flavored bulb makes for elegant dishes. Slice it into thin strips or shred it with a mandolin for a more delicate bite. Try using fennel with tomatoes and seafood or put it in a cous cous salad. Use the long, vibrant fronds as garnish. The holiday weekend was the unofficial start to summer and the warmer weather brings us a variety of Massachusetts-grown greens from our farm partners this week. Fresh arugula and green leaf lettuce came in from Atlas Farm in South Deerfield. Also from the Commonwealth: Mint from Happy Valley Organics in Whately and Sprouts from Jonathan's Organics in Rochester.
