This week is full of surprises, from mischievous ghouls jumping out at unsuspecting passerby to surprising identities revealed beneath Halloween masks. With changing seasons and ever-colder weather, this is also a time for turning inward, for reflection, and maybe there are surprises to be found there too. At the very least, there may be a surprise inside your Boston Organics box – in the form of new produce and add-ons.

It's Marathon Monday, but today we also commemorate the first shots of the American Revolution, fired at Old North Bridge in Concord. The event was memorialized by Ralph Waldo Emerson in his 1837 poem Concord Hymn: “Here once the embattled farmers stood, /And fired the shot heard round the world.” Honor your modern farmers through your enjoyment of delicious organic produce, and take some bites heard round the world. And if you see our vans this week, feel free to shout out, “The green boxes are coming! The green boxes are coming!”
Shamrock shakes, green bagels, emerald-hued beers…St. Patrick’s day must be near! Whether you choose to celebrate along the South Boston parade route or with a hearty plate of Colcannon, it’s a time when everyone can experience the luck of the Irish. And lucky you are when you receive the fresh green treasures in this week’s boxes. (You may even spy some gold!)

The crocuses and daffodils are blooming all around Boston, which means chive blossom season is right around the corner. When allowed to bloom, chives produce a brilliant purple flower, which makes a delightful garnish for spring salads.
