The mercurial early summer weather continues to keep our organic farm partners on their toes. Gideon Porth at Atlas Farm reported that the heat caused a few rows of arugula to bolt prematurely, but the plentiful rain helped his early plantings of collard greens grow to full size in time for harvest.

As the weather warms up, spring is quickly progressing towards summer and our local harvests are becoming more and more flavorful.

Another bunch of organic leafy greens are on their way from Atlas Farm, including arugula, chard and kale. But this week those greens are bolstered by some tasty new ingredients like zucchini and strawberries!

Typical of this time of the year, leafy greens are in great abundance, while much of the rest of our favorite seasonal produce is still ripening on the vine. Organic chard, kale, spinach, lettuce and bok choy are all coming from Atlas Farm this week. We can't help but wonder, what are we supposed to do with all of these organic greens?!

This week marks the beginning of the "local season" for the Boston Organics Community. Atlas Farm, historically our largest supplier of local produce throughout the year, is bringing us their first harvest of leafy greens including arugula, kale and green leaf lettuce.

The organic tomatoes in this week's boxes come from Long Wind Farm, located right on the border between Vermont and New Hampshire. Dave Chapman founded Long Wind Farm in 1984 and has become an expert in growing juicy tomatoes that not only look good, but taste good, too.

The crocuses and daffodils are blooming all around Boston, which means chive blossom season is right around the corner. When allowed to bloom, chives produce a brilliant purple flower, which makes a delightful garnish for spring salads.
