Weekly Newsletter – June 2, 2014

The moment we've all been waiting for is finally here. We can barely contain our excitement – by the end of this week you’ll be enjoying your first harvest of the year from Atlas Farm!

This week, Dogma Box customers will find lots of local leafy greens in their box including red leaf lettuce, kale, chard, and arugula! Even if you’re not a Dogma Box customer, there are still plenty of local leafy greens to go around. Local organic pea shoots from Jonathan’s Organic (Rochester, MA) and fresh-cut organic basil from Happy Valley Organics (Whately, MA) can be found in almost every box along with Atlas Farm (Deerfield, MA) lettuce and kale.

We hope you’re warming up your barbecues this Memorial Day because grilling season has begun!

A mix of fresh-cut herbs from Happy Valley Organics will make a great addition to any grilled meat or vegetable dish and with giant organic Vidalia onions in most of the boxes this week, we bet you'll be headed out to the grill this week. While you're there, slice up a juicy peach, nectarine, or pluot and caramelize it over an open flame - it'll blow your mind!

The sure signs of spring are finally in abundance! Doug Coldwell at Happy Valley Organics in Hadley, MA has been mighty busy lately. He’s bringing us fresh cut dill and basil for most of the boxes this week. He’s also offering our customers beautiful potted basil plants so you can grow organic herbs in your own kitchen or backyard!

This week’s recipe for Grilled Vidalia Onion and Peach Salad is a simple spring dish that combines some of the best seasonal items in this week’s boxes.

The seasons are definitely changing now: the first plums, peaches, and cantaloupes of the year are going out in the 2/3 fruit and all fruit boxes this week!

Meanwhile, vegetable boxes are getting some flavorful zucchini, crisp green beans, and fresh leafy greens out of Florida where winter is just a faded memory.
