9/7-9/11

With dozens of acres of fields to tend to, our organic farm partners have very little time to rest during the height of the local season. Many of them will spend Labor Day weeding, harvesting and bringing their farm-fresh assortment of fruits and veggies to our warehouse so that tomorrow morning we can bring it all right to your doorstep.

So if you're enjoying a day off from work or school, we hope you'll take a moment to recognize all of the people who are working to keep our sustainable food system running smoothly.

8/31-9/4

Coming off a weekend with +85°F days, fall sounds more like a verb than an approaching season. And with many of our favorite summer foods still "growing strong," it sure doesn't taste like autumn yet.

But winds of change are in the air, and a few of the local farm partners that bring us the best organic fruits and veggies in the fall are starting to harvest fields that they planted earlier in the summer. While we anticipate a few more weeks of juicy heirloom tomatoes from Atlas Farm and delicious organic eggplants from Kitchen Garden Farm, the apple harvest is already underway at Dwight Miller and Son Orchards.

You really have no excuse to eat anything but locally grown, organic food this week considering the dazzling array of fresh fruits and vegetables our farm partners have available.

8/10-8/14

The bountiful harvests from our local farm partners continue this week with an absolute rainbow of color. Bright red tomatoes, summer squash and fresh corn on the cob round out a cornucopia that also includes several leafy greens, blueberries and eggplants.

Farmers are often considered creatures of habit—if they find something that works well, they like to stick with it. At the same time, unpredictable weather patterns, pests and botanical diseases mean that organic farmers need to think on their feet and be ready to adapt and try new things at a moment's notice.

7/27-7/31

With fresh produce coming from seven local farms this week, it's hard to decide what we're most excited for. We're obviously giddy over the field tomatoes from Blue Ox Farm and the organic sweet corn from Lakeside Organics of Hadley. And Dwight Miller and Son Orchards is sure to wow us again with more spectacular Vermont blueberries.

7/20-7/24

We're just about halfway through the summer (gasp!), which means we're starting to see an abundance of color and variety in our boxes. From the first field tomatoes to blueberries to corn, we're officially in the local season.

In the Boston area, the early summer is a fantastic time to get your hands on a variety of locally grown leafy greens. This week, familiar faves like kale and dandelion are joined by more unusual leaves like calaloo and radicchio — all coming from Atlas Farm in central Massachusetts.

We've had a wonderful streak of bountiful harvests from our local farm partners in recent weeks, and we expect the crisp vegetables continue to roll in from our New England farmers through the rest of the summer and into the fall.
